Midwest Salisbury Steak (Printable Recipe)

Ground sirloin patties simmered in rich gravy with onions and mushrooms, served over your favorite starch.

# Ingredients You'll Need:

→ Patties

01 - 1 pound ground sirloin
02 - 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
03 - 1 large egg, beaten
04 - 2 tablespoons whole milk
05 - 1/2 (1 ounce) packet dry onion soup mix
06 - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
07 - 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

→ Gravy

08 - 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
09 - 2 cups fresh mushrooms, sliced
10 - 1 sweet onion, sliced
11 - 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
12 - 1/2 (1 ounce) packet dry onion soup mix
13 - 1 1/2 cups beef stock
14 - 1 cup water
15 - Salt, to taste
16 - Ground black pepper, to taste

# Steps to Follow:

01 - In a large bowl, combine ground sirloin, panko, beaten egg, milk, half the onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Mix until just combined and shape into 5 even patties.
02 - Heat a skillet over medium heat. Sear patties for 3 to 5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
03 - In a separate skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Sauté mushrooms and onion until softened, about 5 minutes.
04 - Stir in flour and remaining onion soup mix. Cook briefly, then gradually whisk in beef stock and water until smooth.
05 - Reduce heat to medium. Stir frequently and cook until the gravy thickens, about 4 to 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
06 - Return patties to the skillet with the gravy. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).

# Extra Tips:

01 - Use ground sirloin for less grease and better flavor.
02 - For even browning, avoid overcrowding the skillet.
